There are several places in the CSD math curriculum where students use logical reasoning as a problem solving strategy. In some cases, they learn to solve grid logic problems like this one:

New Cable Networks

The Centennial Cable Company recently added four new channels to its system: DBC, NBS, EBS, and FXO. The networks were assigned to channels 101, 104, 108, and 109. Use the clues below to figure out which cable network is on each channel.

  1. DBC, NBS, the network on channel 101, and the one on channel 104 will all be showing live specials on Monday, January 24, 2014.
  2. The NBS network is 8 channels away from EBS on the Centennial Cable System.

Some students will pick this up quickly and be able to solve the problems with little difficulty. You can challenge students by finding more difficult problems for them to solve, but bright students also enjoy trying to create their own. Here are some problems created by students which you can use as examples, as well as a blank template.
